GECCO'S GREEN ROBBIE THE RABBIT STATUE COMPARISON REVIEW

4/1/2016

Picture
Gecko announced early in December 2015 that a new Robbie the Rabbit statue was due to be released in March the following year.

Although their Robbie the Rabbit statue already comes in three different variants, a Green version was announced with a small number of differences along with it.

The Green Robbie appears in the Usagi short film from Lost Memories: The Art and Music of Silent Hill Dvd and although he only appears briefly it would appear that brief moment was worthy of an official statue release. Not that I'm complaining of course.

As with previous reviews, I have usually talked about every aspect of the statue and its packaging, however with this review I am simply focusing on the differences. For this review I am comparing the packaging from the original Pink Robbie as well as the Pink and Blue
 statues themselves.

The front of the box is identical to the original pink Robbie packaging. There appears to be no differences at all, which is somewhat of a shame as the three previous releases had differences with each one. It would have been great to see another variation in the box so they look even better when all placed side by side.

The back features an image taken from the Dvd of a small number of Robbies crowded together in a elevator. You can clearly see the Green Robbie in the picture. This image is also signed by Usagi Tanaka in the lower right hand corner. The same image is also printed on the back of the info card included with every statue.

Starting with the left hand side of the box, it once again features information about the people behind the statue. The only difference here are the actual people who worked on this and the original. Whereas the right hand side is almost identical, the only difference is that they have added a small section about the short film included on the Lost Memories Dvd.
When comparing the statues side by side, the only difference is the blood and obviously his colour. With the original Pink and Blue Robbie statues, the blood was symmetrical either side of the mouth. As you can see from the pictures, the new Robbie's blood is all around his mouth and cheeks. There appear to be no other differences aside from this.
The chainsaw is in red this time instead of black or yellow with the words engraved into it being 'Together we are one'. The steel pipe is no more! This Robbie must be honest as this time he comes with a gold pipe, which I actually really like. A small easter egg in Silent Hill 3 allowed the player to obtain either a silver or gold pipe dependant on the players honesty.

You can still grab the Green Robbie from D4Toys for $155 as well as the Blue variant which was originally exclusive to Japan and is priced slightly cheaper at $140. Shipping is available worldwide.

Medicom Toy's Robbie the Rabbit figure review

8/17/2015

Picture
In November 2014 Medicom Toy revealed that a Robbie the Rabbit figure was in the works and would be released in July 2015 as part of their Real Action Heroes range.

Unlike previously released Robbie merchandise, this Robbie figure would be posable. Gecco have already released three Robbie statues as well as Gaya Entertainments Robbie plush doll, so a posable figure is a great addition to any Silent Hill collection.

Robbie comes in a large display box which features various images of the figure in different poses on all sides. The front opens up to reveal additional images and a window which allows you to see directly into the box without taking him out.

He comes with an additional pair of hands, a chainsaw, a steel pipe and a clear stand for the figure to stand on.

When first opening the box, the tab has the words "Your Fingerpost from Lakeside Amusement Park". The tab, as well as the inside of the box is bright orange.

Robbie stands at around 300mm tall and is completely flocked all over. He has dark brown dungarees and a fabric green bow tie. His clothing has blood all down it as well as around his mouth. Little things I particularly like are the gold buttons on his dungarees and the tiny zip at the back.

The blood splatter on his clothing and face is much more random than with the Gecco statue which appears much more symmetrical, although it's darker in colour. One thing that kind of bugs me about the blood around his mouth is that it continues into his mouth as well which for me makes it seem like it was just thrown on without actually avoiding the inside of his mouth.

The flocking is also dirty in colour across various parts of his body, this includes his arms feet and head. At first I thought this was due to poor production and I had actually received a rather dirty item but after comments from other owners it would appear this is the case for all figures. AmiAmi did mention this in their review but it doesn't seem to be mentioned by Medicom Toy themselves which may be something that puts people off buying this.
The hands that are already attached to Robbie are able to carry the steel pipe and chainsaw via the top handle. The additional set of hands are much wider, which allows better grip on the chainsaw when trying to have Robbie hold it via the handle at the back.

His arms bend and can be moved up and down, so you can have Robbie in various poses. His legs do also move but not as much as the arms. He is able to stand without support but if you're looking for a more unusual pose, the clear stand holds him up perfectly. I noticed that when attaching him to the stand that his belly is also soft and squishy.
When comparing this figure to Gecco's statues, I have to admit that the quality of Gecco's Robbie is much higher. It's cleaner looking and also appears that they put much more care and effort into it. Medicom Toy's Robbie is a fantastic addition to any Silent Hill collection and being posable is a huge selling point for me but in terms of quality it's less than I thought it would be.

I understand that the overall look was to appear more old and worn and to give off a look that seems like he's been lying around for quite some time now. Which in reality would be the case if you stumbled into Lakeside Amusement Park but with this costing more that Gecco's products, I expected a little bit more.

A positive to his dirty look is that I don't think I would be as worried about him getting dirty if I had him out on display. Flocked items are hard to clean which wouldn't be so much of a problem with this.
AmiAmi are selling Robbie for ¥22,130 which is around £115/$178 which is actually the cheapest I have seen him for sale so far.

Just as the dust settles on Gecco's Silent Hill production line Medicom Toy pops up with a new Robbie the Rabbit figure that will be released in July 2015.

Measuring approximately 300mm high, this Robbie is once again flocked and comes with a chainsaw, steel pipe and a stand for him to stand proudly on.

Unlike the Gecco statues, it would appear that this Robbie is also pose-able which is a huge selling point for myself.

He has been sculpted by Perfect-Studio and his clothes are made by Yumiko Noda. Although a little more than the Gecco statues, this guy is currently on pre-order for 22,130 yen which works out at around £122 or $191.

Gecco's LImited Edition Robbie the Rabbit Souvenir statue review

6/29/2014

Picture
When Gecco announced in July 2013 that they were going to release a Robbie the Rabbit statue, they revealed that there would be a total of three variants available. The first two being a Pink and Blue blood stained statue. The two statues would be available for general release across the world.

The third statue however, was only made available in Japan. To get your hands on one you would need to apply through Figure Oh (Figure King) Magazine. This variant is also limited to only 300 pieces and comes in a souvenir style packaging. Luckily I managed to get my hands on one and I have to say, I think its my favorite out of the three.

To start off with, the packaging for the Souvenir Robbie statue is quite different indeed. The statue box itself comes inside a white box which has a printed ribbon around it. This box has novelty stickers on which make it look as if it has been delivered directly from Silent Hill itself. I especially love the fragile sticker, which has a rabbit silhouette. There is also an address label which states it has been sent from ‘Mr Robbie’ and a QR Code which when scanned takes you to the Gecco website.

Opening up this parcel we are greeted with the Souvenir Statue. Unlike the other statues, the box art is clean and bright. It has the ‘Sweet Factory, Souvenir Shop’ logo on the top of the box. This time the sides of the box have no statue and sculptor info but are replaced with novelty images of Robbie and the other Lakeside Amusement Park mascots. I especially love how the mascot side states ‘Not also Available’. A carousel silhouette pattern also adorns the sides of the box. The back art still features the image of several Robbie’s in a bathtub (created by Usagi Takana).

Just from looking into the box you can easily see that the map that is included as a backdrop for the other variants has been removed and has instead been replaced with gold backing.
The Souvenir Robbie statue features no blood at all. The blood that is present around the mouths of the other statues has been removed entirely. His clothes are clean and tidy and the chainsaw is also shiny and bloodless, along with the base that he can stand on.

Aside from the lack of blood, the only difference with the base is that it has a stamp at the bottom stating that it’s the exclusive souvenir version, printed in white.
When standing all three of the Robbie statue’s together in their boxes, you can see the decay from clean to blood and rust. I love how so much thought has gone into the packaging of these statue’s and I would have to say that out of all the releases from Gecco, the Robbie statue’s are by far my favorite. I especially love how this variant really does feel like a souvenir, the fact it has the store logo from Silent Hill 3 on the top, it's clean, bright and a joy to look at.

Sadly Gecco have no plans to release this version in the future and will stick to releasing the Blood stained variants worldwide only. If you would like to try and get your hands on one of these yourself you can try various auction websites like Jauce and Rinkya, although this variant is already selling for well over 30,000 yen.

Gecco's Blue and Pink Robbie the Rabbit statue Review #SilentHill

4/27/2014

Picture
In July of 2013 we were treated to the first look at a total of four new statues that Gecco were currently working on. The first of those four was released in January and that was of Heather Mason from Silent Hill 3. Along with Heather Mason Gecco also revealed a statue of Robbie the Rabbit also from Silent Hill 3.

Robbie was released in March of this year (2o14) and was released in three different variants. The first being the regular blood stained Pink Robbie, this Robbie is widely available and if you pre-ordered it from Amiami.com it also came with a small tin of Green Tea. The second variant was of a Blue Robbie and is initially exclusive to Mamegyorai in Japan, limited to 3000. The final variant was only available to Figure King Magazine in Japan. This variant of Robbie features different box art and the statue itself contains no blood at all. Bloodless Robbie is limited to only 300 pieces.

Fortunately for myself I have managed to get my hands on the Pink and Blue Robbie statues, with the bloodness version on its way also (mini review to follow upon arrival).

All three Robbie statues feature the same style box art but with additional added detail. The Pink Robbie features souvenir style packaging from Lakeside Amusement Park, with small amounts of blood and rust across the box. The Blue Robbie’s box art is much more bloody and dark, the entire front is rusted and decayed. The back of the boxes contain a large image of four Robbie’s in a bathtub, the only difference being that the Blue Robbie box features one Blue rabbit in the tub and the Pink Robbie’s box contain all Pink Rabbits. The sides of the box contain sculptor information and also additional info about the games and Robbie himself.

When you first open the box you can see that the tabs inside show instructions on how to put the included weapons into his hands. Included is a small sheet of clear plastic which you must wrap around the weapons before placing them into Robbie’s hand. This is to avoid the flocking being removed from his hands. The lid of the box also has a small card which contains the same image on the back of the box and information about the Sculptors and Robbie once again.

The cardboard insert that is also a backing for the statue features the map of Silent Hill. The Pink version has blood splatters across it with the Lakeside Amusement Park circled. The Blue version however is almost covered entire in blood and is barely view-able.
The statue itself is covered in flocking making him soft and fuzzy, this adds a more realistic feel to him being a soft toy or costume. He stands at approximately 34cm high and comes with a round base that is similar to the base that also comes with Heather. Unlike other releases from Gecco Robbie is also free standing so if you prefer you can keep Robbie off his base. I really like the amount of detail that has been put into making this statue. His face features blood stained cheeks and a shiny mouth and nose. His eyes are perfectly painted and have a glossy look which creates a small amount of innocence to this sinister bunny.

The colour of his bowtie will either be green or yellow dependant on which Robbie you own but both will be blood stained. The buttons on his overalls are gold and shiny and although Robbie has blood all over him, these are untouched. His overalls also have a zip at the back right above a small round fuzzy tail.
The chainsaw that is included also contains a large amount of detail. As you can see from the pictures it is also bloodstained and worn looking. The Chainsaw that is included with the Pink Robbie has the words "To you my dear" engraved across it. The Blue Robbie chainsaw has the words "Your Fingerpost". The lettering is actually carved into the blade and not printed onto it which I feel makes them stand out much more than if they were printed.
As with Heather and the Bubble Head Nurses, Robbie also comes with a steel pipe, but lets be honest, a chainsaw is much cooler right?
The weapons need to have plastic wrapped around them before placing them into Robbie's hand, this is to avoid the flocking from coming off. Although even with the plastic I found it difficult to place the weapons into his hand.
If you were lucky enough to pre-order Robbie from Amiami.com and paid a small amount more for him, your Robbie also came with a tin of Green Tea. The tin features Robbie the Rabbit artwork and contains information about the rabbit himself. Luckily the exclusive tea version appears back in stock every now and again so if you're after this version keep checking Amiami as you may be in luck.

I must admit that out of all the Silent Hill statues released by Gecco so far, the Robbie statues are by far my favorite. The amount of detail is outstanding and the adding flocking effect makes this statue a real must have for any fan. The initial Robbie statue design did have a more splattered blood effect across his face whereas the official release features a more symmetrical design and although there have been a few complaints because I this, I really do not mind his new look.
If you're still to purchase a Silent Hill statue this is definitely the one to buy to kick start your collection. After taking pictures for this review I ended up placing the Robbie's back into their boxes as they really do look great in or out of them.
If you're after your very own Robbie you can grab him from Amiami.com or for those of you outside of Japan, Robbie is due to be released worldwide May 2014. You can pre-order and get more information on where to purchase him from thefollowing distributors :

Mamegyorai and revealed photographs of the finalized Robbie the Rabbit statues.
As you can see the boxes look amazing and I cannot wait to get my hands on both of these (and the souvenir version if I can get it).

The Pink blood stained Robbie features rusty, blood stained art that looks like a souvenir style product. The Blue Robbie is much similar however the blood and rust are much more present.

Gecco's Robbie the Rabbit is released in Japan this month, although it appears to be sold out everywhere.
For those wanting to get your hands on either of them (or both) you can order them from:

Diamond Comics Distributors Inc. (USA)
Kolektakon LLC (USA)
Abysse Corp (France)
Fantasiland (Italy)
HEO GmbH (Germany)
ILOVETOYZ, INC (Korea)
The Falcon's Hangar (Singapore)

Please note release dates for orders outside of Japan vary with the majority beginning in May and some pre-orders may already be sold out.

So what do you think? And will you be getting your hands on Robbie?
