Silent Hill 2, Red Pyramid Thing Figma Review

5/31/2015

At Winter Wonder Festival 2014 it was revealed that Max Factory would release two Silent Hill Figma figures. These would be distributed by Good Smile Company and be available worldwide.

At the time only the Red Pyramid Thing Figma had been physically revealed and although it wasn't finished it still looked amazing.

The second figure was revealed to be a Bubble Head Nurse making both Figma's coming from Silent Hill 2. The Red Pyramid Head Figma was released in April of this year (2015) and sold out almost everywhere.

Luckily I managed to get my hands on a pair of RPT's and I am highly impressed! They look incredible and are definitely a must for any Silent Hill fan.

As we all know similar looking statues were released by Gecco but being a statue, were not posable. With the Figma figures you can pose them in any pose you like, add his Great Knife to the mix and you've got one hell of a bad ass looking figure.

The Red Pyramid Thing Figma comes in red and black packaging with a large clear window where you can see the figure and some of his accessories. The sides and lids of the box all contain images of the RPT, with a collection of images of him in various poses on the back. All of these poses can be re-created easily yourself.

When opening the box you'll see that he comes with his famous (and awesome) Great Knife, a Spear, 4 pairs of different hands (5 if you include the pair already attached) a stand with support, small plastic bag to keep everything in (if you decide to chuck the box in the bin) and an additional neck piece. As well as a small leaflet with instructions.
The paint job and detail is outstanding and no small details seem to have been left out. The right side of his helmet has a small nail sticking out with the dent that we have seen so many times before also present on the front. His billowing fleshy mass underneath his helmet looks wet and somewhat sticky, this also has another nail stuck in it at the back.

One thing that did surprise me is that the bottom of his clothing is made from rubber, which makes adjusting his legs into the right position easy and simple to do. His clothing itself is dull, dirty and blood stained. Small details like his silver buckles and bloody boots really do show how much work has gone into making this look as good as possible.

His arms, legs and feet are fully jointed making it easy to bend and adjust them into the way you want him to look. You can also twist his helmet from side to side or back and forth.
The additional pairs of hands means you can have him holding his Great Knife, the Spear, both or nothing. When comparing this figure to the Gecco Statue of the RPT, I do like how easy it is to slot the weapons into his hands. One thing that worried me with the statues was that I was pushing a little too hard and would end up breaking his hand while trying to attach the Great Knife.

With the Figma, his hands are designed to allow easy insertion of his weapons and actually have a small amount of flexibility.

The additional neck piece has a small hole in the front. When attached you are able to place the spear into his throat (ouch) and recreate the double RPT battle directly from Silent Hill 2. Originally I intended to keep one of these sealed in the box and the other on display but temptation got the best of me and I had to see what it would look like.
All I need now is an awesome backdrop and i've got a scene from Silent Hill 2 in my living room...
The base comes with a clear support which can be adjusted. On the base the Figma logo is present and a small hole in the back allows you to attach the support which also fits into the back of the figure to ensure he isn't going to be falling over anytime soon. Although he can stand freely without the stand.

I purchased both of these from AmiAmi for ¥3800 which works out at around £20/$30 each. Good Smile Company plan on re-releasing him this October for those who missed out the first time.

You can pre-order him from AmiAmi, BigBadToyStore, Forbidden Planet or directly from Good Smile Company.

Microsoft to purchase Silent Hills?

The folks over at The Know have released a video stating that Silent Hills may not be over just yet. An anonymous source has stated that Microsoft are currently in talks to purchase Silent Hills to make it a Xbox One exclusive.

According to the video below they're hoping to purchase Silent Hills before E3 to announce it at this years show. The deal is apparently going to cost billions of dollars to buy. Silent Hills is also apparently 80% complete and would possibly receive a March 2016 release date.

P.t was also removed from the PSN to make way for the Xbox purchase.

The video does make some very good points which are highly plausible but until E3 we won't really know if any of this is at all true. I'm not holding my breath as this is a rumour but a great one at that.

We shall have to wait and see!
Update: Head of Xbox Phil Spencer stated on his twitter account that the rumour is not true and he's not sure where the rumour even started.

@GoReds42093 @Xbox Sorry, this isn't true. Not sure where the rumor started but I don't want to mislead anyone.

Final images of the Figma Bubble Head Nurse revealed, available for pre-order now

Images of Figma's Bubble Head Nurse have finally been revealed and as expected it is a thing of beauty!

We were treated to a small number of unfinished images back in February but now we can see her completed look and also get a glimpse at the additional extras that come with her.

As we can see she comes with a bloody knife, steel pipe and additional head which is similar to the head that was included with the Comic Con exclusive Red Bubble Head Nurse from Gecco.

She is currently up for pre-order from AmiAmi.com with a price of ¥4600 although she has 20% off right now, making her only ¥3540, which works out at just over £19/$29. BigBadToyStore have her listed for $54.99 or you could buy the Nurse and the Red Pyramid Thing directly from the Good Smile Company's online store. The RPT is also receiving a limited re-release in October.

I may have to pre-order more than one of these as i'm already debating a second Red Pyramid Thing Figma. For the price she looks amazing and is definitely worth the money. The RPT sold out pretty fast last time, so if you're planning to get one I would get your order in soon.

Figma's Bubble Head Nurse is due for release late October this year.

The end of P.T but maybe not the end of Silent Hills?

As we're all now sadly aware, Silent Hills is no more. It's gone, dead. P.T was removed from the Playstation Network on April 29th leaving those who had yet to download it little hope of ever playing that short, terrifying teaser game that got the world talking.

It was confirmed before it's removal that fans who added the game to their downloads list in their account would still be able to download the teaser at a later date from the PSN servers. This is no longer the case, only days later it was revealed that Sony have also now removed the game from their servers entirely and unless you have a license for the games use, you cannot and will not be able to download it.
So all of those fans still holding out to download it when they can sadly have to admit defeat and accept it's gone (sad times).

The official website for P.T has had all links, information and videos removed. A small notice stating the game is no longer available to download has been added to the site, which also thanks fans for their support.

One thing however sticks out for me in regards to the entire cancellation of this promising game. When Konami finally issued a statement about Silent Hills and announced it was indeed cancelled, they did also state that

"In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements"

From this tiny sentence comes a small glimmer of hope. Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro are still in talks for future projects but Norman Reedus is out. Although seeing a known face in a Silent Hill game was indeed different, i'm somewhat glad that he is no longer involved. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, love him in The Walking Dead and I think the fact they chose him for Silent Hills only increased the amount of buzz this game received when it was first revealed. I just don't think a famous face in a game is a good idea, not with Silent Hill anyway.

The P.T website has also removed all images of Reedus from the site but not all images of Silent Hills. It would appears Konami are trying to bury this game under the carpet by removing P.T entirely but what if Silent Hills isn't quite over yet?

I say this because with the Silent Hills image still on the P.T website and also it would seem Kojima and Del Toro are still in discussions, it's possible Konami are not entirely removing this game from existence but possibly changing it around in a massive way. Why not just remove the site entirely as all it has on their now are around six images and nothing else? And why chuck away so much advertising and buzz that the Teaser has already created. They could easily re-use whatever they have currently worked on and adapt a new game from that with Kojima and co on board. It's a long shot but a possibility.

Who knows what Konami are up to at the moment as they seem a little bit up in the air with everything lately but for me i'm going to hold onto a new, potentially great Silent Hill game a little bit longer.

Silent Hills is dead but Silent Hill isn't.
