Silent Hill Revelation is a sequel to the original Silent Hill movie released in 2006. It was directed and written by Michael J Bassett. The film is based around the third game in the Silent Hill series, Silent Hill 3. Unlike the first film, Silent Hill: Revelation was also shown in 3D and was filmed using 3D Red Epic camera's.
It was first released October 26th 2012. The film has a total running time of 94 minutes and was made with a budget of $20 million. It has grossed a total of $52,302,796 worldwide. Revelation is based around the Story of Heather Mason and her father Harry Mason. Heather and Harry have been on the run for years, trying to escape the town of Silent Hill and its cult followers. Having changed their names from Cheryl and Christopher it is only a matter of time before the town catches up with them. At the beginning of the film Heather is suffering from nightmares and visions of the town and it isn't until she meets a private detective named Douglas Cartland that she realises time has run out. Christopher is kidnapped and she must return to Silent Hill to find him and stop The Order, a cult that has been looking for Heather. Michael J Bassett wanted to make a film that was a sequel but could also been seen as a stand alone film. So throughout the film flash backs and explanations as to why the town is how it is and why Heather is there are shown. Even though Revelation is a sequel the original main character from Silent Hill, Rose Da Silva only makes one appearance. Revelation also features creatures that have been created just for the film. Pyramid Head and the Nurses once again do make an appearance along with a new Mannequin Spider creature. |
Christopher Gans was the original director for the second film with Roger Avery also returning. Gans later announced that he would not be directing the sequel and so Micheal J Bassett was officially announced. Avery was also set to return as the writer but due to his arrest in 2008 for vehicular manslaughter, Michael J Bassett also took over writing the script.
Filming began in 2008 and lasted a total of 3 months. Bassett posted on his official blog that he was after peoples opinions for who they think should play Heather. The actress had to be known and also have an imdb page. Adelaide Clemens was later cast in the role with the original actress, Jodelle Ferland who played Cheryl in the first film, not even being asked.
Bassett also created original creatures for the film. A mannequin spider was created for a scene in which Heather meets another person who is lost in Silent Hill. A Lobotomy creature greets Heather when she enters the Brookhaven hospital and the Delusion, which is the fan named hallucinations that Heathers see's. The Delusion isn't a creature as such however Heather does see several people with stitched up faces before she returns to Silent Hill, thus the name 'Delusion'. The Missionary was also adapted for the film.
When the film was in its early filming stages a promotional image was released on line of what appeared to be Sharon and Heather finding each other. This scene however was removed from the final cut. The deleted scene is available on most European DVD and Blu-Ray releases.
Bassett also created an ending that would leave it open to the possibility of a third film. The final scenes of the film see Christopher staying in Silent Hill to look for his wife Rose (Silent Hill 2), A truck pulls up beside Heather and the driver, Travis Grady offers her a lift (Silent Hill: Origins) and just as they pull off a Prison bus drives into Silent Hill (Silent Hill Downpour).
