The film follows Rose Da Silver who takes her daughter, Sharon to Silent Hill to try and find out why she is suffering from hallucinations and nightmares. As she drives closer to Silent Hill she stops off at a gas station which is where she meets Cybil Bennett. After a breath conversation Rose speeds off with Cybil in pursuit. Rose ends up swerving to avoid a girl in the road and crashes the car just outside of Silent Hill. When she wakes Sharon is gone and the roads have been completely cut off. Cybil also suffered a crash on her bike and wakes up in Silent Hill as well.
Rose must search the town for her missing daughter in the hopes she is still alive but as the town changes into the Otherworld she is confronted by more than just its residents.
Along with the town and its creatures various residents are still living in the town including Dahlia Gillespie, the mother of Alessa. Thought to have been a demon, a cult sacrificed Alessa many years before which caused their damnation. Rose must figure out where Sharon is and uncover the towns past before its too late.
Pyramid Head and the Nurses both make appearances in the film along with the lying figure. Some creatures have been altered for the film like the Grey Child. The film also introduces a new creature, a Janitor. The janitor is first seen in the film tied up with barb wire in a toilet cubicle. Flashbacks reveal the reasons as to why he has been treated this one. When the darkness begins to appear he also appears from the cubicle, legs tied behind his head as he drags himself towards Rose. He also can summon Swarm like creatures.

It took a total of five years for Christopher Gans to be given the film rights to Silent Hill. It wasn't until Gans sent a video explaining what he would like do and how much the games mean to him that Konami finally gave him the rights. In 2004 Gans and Avery began working on the script. The originally draft continued primarily a all female cast but was later changed and Sean Bean and Kim Coates characters were added.
Several of the scenes were also changed due to timing and budgetary reasons. The original scene were Rose and Cybil meet Anna is very different to what was filmed in the final cut. The original seen saw Anna being attacked by a Lying figure and is rescued when Rose and Cybil appear. Another scene that was changed was the ending. The original ending saw six Pyramid Head creatures appearing in the church before killing the cult entirely. This scene was changed due to timing and so the bard wire ending we see in the film was produced. Anna's original scene can we seen on the French Dvd release or by clicking the video below:
You can also view the original script by clicking HERE. They changed quite a bit! The beginning of the movie begun in a Hospital and Sharon was Christopher's and Rose's biological daughter, she was never adopted. Also the ending saw several Pyramid Head's rising up in the church!

I love the original Silent Hill movie because the fear for Sharon and Rose is real and you are not only afraid of the monsters but of the humans there as well. I also like that the monsters are mutations of humans and not anything gory..... They have grace and horror all in one" - Jaison Millie
Below is a collection of deleted scene screenshots. The image of Alessa standing in the bus doorway was actually used in Silent Hill: Revelation. The Image of Anna in the doorway can also briefly be seen on the French Limited Edition DVD.
