Silent Hill The Short Message was a surprise release from Konami that was released exclusive on the PS5 on January 31st 2024.
Leaked images and information about the game appeared online multiple times throughout 2022 and 2023, but were never confirmed by Konami themselves to be a genuine Silent Hill release.
During the Sony's Playstation State of Play, Konami finally confirmed it's existence and it was made available to download for free from the Playstation store, exclusively for the PS5.
Following messages from her friend Maya, Anita finds herself at a crumbling apartment block, infamous for rumors of suicides.
Drawn inside, Anita soon finds her sense of reality shattered as she encounters bizarre, otherworldly spaces, haunted by a twisted monster. Maya's message was clear…"can't leave til you find it"...but what is it that Anita is really looking for?
The games deals with themes of suicide, depression and abuse.
Creature designer Masahiro Ito returned to create a brand new monster for the Silent Hill universe and Akira Yamaoka returned to create the score too.

Anita is the main protagonist in The Short Message. She's a troubled teenager who keeps receiving messages from her recently deceased friend Maya.
She's trapped in an abandoned appartment complex in Germany and must search for clues to solve the mystery of who the messages are coming from. |

Maya is Anita's friend and sadly took her own life. She's a popular artist with a large social following online.
Throughout the game you see Maya via live action recordings. Anita can speak to her through text messages on her phone. |

Only one creature appears in Silent Hill The Short Message and that is a tall, fast creature that appears in the maze/chase areas of the game.
The creature appears to be female, with it's head a ball of cherry blossom petals wrapped in barbed wire. |
Silent Hill The Short Message only has one ending.
After the final chase sequence, Anita appears on the roof once more and considers jumping off, she stops herself which causes the fog surrounding the Villa to disappear and Anita is back in the normal world. She reconnects with Amelie and eventually they both leave.

Akira Yamaoka once again returned to the Silent Hill franchise to create the soundtrack for Silent Hill The Short Message. Esther Ortega appears as the lead vocalist.

Leaks
In 2022 screenshots from Silent Hill The Short Message were leaked online under the working title of Sakura. Although not confirmed by Konami to be a genuine release, the game was officially rated in South Korea in September 2022. In December of the same year, the game was once again rated but this time in Taiwan. The sypnosis for the game was also revealed to be;
"Anita came to an abandoned apartment in order to meet her friend Maya, and somehow woke up to find herself trapped in it. She must escape her own fears and the monsters lurking in the corridors, discover the truth behind the events she's trapped in, and try to escape before her own trauma consumes her will to survive."
On the 6th of November 2023 the Australian Classification Board posted the full games plot in it's annual report and stated that its;
“an exploration‑based psychological horror game in which players control characters in an apartment building called The Villa in modern‑day Germany.”
