![]() In November 2014 Medicom Toy revealed that a Robbie the Rabbit figure was in the works and would be released in July 2015 as part of their Real Action Heroes range. Unlike previously released Robbie merchandise, this Robbie figure would be posable. Gecco have already released three Robbie statues as well as Gaya Entertainments Robbie plush doll, so a posable figure is a great addition to any Silent Hill collection. Robbie comes in a large display box which features various images of the figure in different poses on all sides. The front opens up to reveal additional images and a window which allows you to see directly into the box without taking him out. He comes with an additional pair of hands, a chainsaw, a steel pipe and a clear stand for the figure to stand on. When first opening the box, the tab has the words "Your Fingerpost from Lakeside Amusement Park". The tab, as well as the inside of the box is bright orange. Robbie stands at around 300mm tall and is completely flocked all over. He has dark brown dungarees and a fabric green bow tie. His clothing has blood all down it as well as around his mouth. Little things I particularly like are the gold buttons on his dungarees and the tiny zip at the back. The blood splatter on his clothing and face is much more random than with the Gecco statue which appears much more symmetrical, although it's darker in colour. One thing that kind of bugs me about the blood around his mouth is that it continues into his mouth as well which for me makes it seem like it was just thrown on without actually avoiding the inside of his mouth. The flocking is also dirty in colour across various parts of his body, this includes his arms feet and head. At first I thought this was due to poor production and I had actually received a rather dirty item but after comments from other owners it would appear this is the case for all figures. AmiAmi did mention this in their review but it doesn't seem to be mentioned by Medicom Toy themselves which may be something that puts people off buying this. The hands that are already attached to Robbie are able to carry the steel pipe and chainsaw via the top handle. The additional set of hands are much wider, which allows better grip on the chainsaw when trying to have Robbie hold it via the handle at the back. His arms bend and can be moved up and down, so you can have Robbie in various poses. His legs do also move but not as much as the arms. He is able to stand without support but if you're looking for a more unusual pose, the clear stand holds him up perfectly. I noticed that when attaching him to the stand that his belly is also soft and squishy. When comparing this figure to Gecco's statues, I have to admit that the quality of Gecco's Robbie is much higher. It's cleaner looking and also appears that they put much more care and effort into it. Medicom Toy's Robbie is a fantastic addition to any Silent Hill collection and being posable is a huge selling point for me but in terms of quality it's less than I thought it would be.
I understand that the overall look was to appear more old and worn and to give off a look that seems like he's been lying around for quite some time now. Which in reality would be the case if you stumbled into Lakeside Amusement Park but with this costing more that Gecco's products, I expected a little bit more. A positive to his dirty look is that I don't think I would be as worried about him getting dirty if I had him out on display. Flocked items are hard to clean which wouldn't be so much of a problem with this.
Although this is somewhat of a downer with the fact Silent Hills has been cancelled (honestly guys it's cancelled, please let it go already) and the fact Konami's main focus appears to now be mobile gaming, i'm really not seeing this as a huge negative or even the direction Silent Hill is now going to head into (you've got to hold out for a new game right?). We all know this isn't the first time Konami has released an arcade game for Silent Hill. Sure this is a slot machine and Silent Hill The Arcade was a first person shoot em up, so the differences are high but it's still an arcade game. The full trailer actually doesn't look too bad if you remove the entire arcade machine bits and stick to video only... sure the characters don't look as good as in SH2 but lets be real here, it's a slot machine, so Konami isn't really looking for amazing graphics. As to whether this will be released outside of Japan is yet to be revealed but I won't be rushing out to my nearest arcade if it is. |
